“Sometimes our thoughts in our head are fast and all over the place, much like a glitter jar that has been shaken up. Other times our thoughts are slow and settled much like a glitter jar that has been allowed to settle. Today we will check in and pay attention to how fast or slow our thoughts are moving at the moment. Remember there is no wrong answer. Sometimes our minds are busy and all over and sometimes they are settled and calm. Let’s check in and see what’s happening right now.”
“Place your hands on your chest”
“Inside your head say, how do you feel?” For little ones - “Say, hey body how do you feel?”
“Pay attention to your mind, if your mind were a glitter jar would it be moving slow or fast or maybe somewhere in between.”
“Raise your hand if you would like to share what you noticed.”
Let the children share their responses. Try not to give any value to what most consider negative or positive. All answers have equal value because the goal is to identify what’s happening right now in this moment. If a child struggles they can go back to a thumbs up, thumbs down, thumb sideways.
